Dr. Falah H. Hussein

Professor Dr. Falah H. Hussein received his PhD in Immersion Physical Chemistry from Nottingham University in England. He is currently working with his research group within the Faculty of Pharmacy, at the University of Babylon in Iraq focusing on synthetizing nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes and studying photocatalytic activity and drug delivery by nanomaterials.
 
Dr. Falah has occupied several top scientific and academic administrative positions throughout his lengthy career and tenure all with the goal of improving teaching pedagogy, research methods and outcomes, and higher education overall in Iraq. Over the last eighteen years, he served in different capacities as Dean of the College of Education, Dean of the College of Science, and University President. During this time, he established many colleges, scientific departments, research centers, and MSc and PhD study programs.

Dr. Falah has received numerous awards, including three international Kolbenkian Awards, the National Award of Environment in Iraq (2001), and more than 100 National awards. He is a recipient of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Medal of Science, a medal of honor and distinction (2013) in Iraq. He was also awarded the prestigious NISA Award for Outstanding Iraqi Research in 2017 and for the Best Collaborative Paper for a published scientific article in 2016.

Dr. Falah has studied, taught, and published many articles on chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) safety and security including topics related to environmental protection, wastewater treatments, hydrogen production and nanotechnology. 
 
He is one of the founders of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC), has been awarded twelve patents, and has published more than 160 articles within the CBRN discipline spanning different national and international journals.
 
Dr. Falah has served as organizing committee chair for Iraq’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th National CBRN Safety and Security Conference series in Iraq from 2016-2020 and currently chairs both the University of Babylon’s and Al-Mustaqbal University’s CBRN safety and security central committees. In addition to this Dr. Falah is a member of Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s CBRN Committee. Dr. Falah is committed to advancing CBRN safety and security awareness and competencies around the world and in his home country of Iraq and has participated in more than 100 CBRN Safety and Security focused workshops in the US, Malaysia, Turkey, Germany, the Czech Republic, Jordan, and Iraq.
