Bethany Banks 
Senior Program Manager

Bethany joined Coalescion in 2022 as a Senior Program Manager, after a decade-long career in the federal government. Bethany joined the U.S. Department of State in 2011 as a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF). She served as a Foreign Affairs Officer in the Office of European Political and Security Policy at the U.S. Department of State until 2018, where she advised senior Department officials on critical defense and political-military policy issues. From 2018 to 2022, Bethany served on an interagency task force dedicated to managing the risk posed by advanced conventional weapons in the hands of terrorist and non-state groups, where she was responsible for multilateral engagements at all major global organizations, as well as border and export control policies and related training programs. Bethany also served at the U.S. Embassies in Tbilisi and Bucharest and developed training initiatives for the Peace Corps National Headquarters. 

Prior to her work with the U.S. government, Bethany worked in academia and in the private sector on business capture for a government contractor focused on national security, government, and public health.


Bethany earned a Master of Arts in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies from the University of Kansas, where she was a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellow in Russian, and she graduated from the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs. Bethany also graduated from the Secretary’s Leadership Seminar, a leadership training collaboration between the Department of State and Harvard Business School.


A native of Missouri, Bethany now lives in Washington DC with her husband and two toddlers. Bethany loves cycling and running in Rock Creek Park, finding the best local vegan spot during her global travels, and RV camping with her family.
